Dolphin Digital Media has hired director Andy Tennant to helm young-adult Internet series “In Bloom” from actress-singer Ashley Tisdale, and unveiled  plans for online soap “South Beach” set in Miami.

Digital studio made the announcement at CAA’s NewFronts event Wednesday in Manhattan. “We’ve raised the bar of directors working in the digital space,” Dolphin topper Bill O’Dowd said.

Tennant’s other helming credits include “Ever After” (Drew Barrymore), “Anna and the King” (Jodie Foster) and “Sweet Home Alabama” (Reese Witherspoon).

Tisdale, repped by CAA, is exec producer for “In Bloom.” Skein, comprising 10×10-minute episodes, revolves around a sister-brother high school band and each will feature an original song. Tisdale’s Blondie Girl Prods. and partner Jessica Rhoades will coproduce “In Bloom” with Dolphin and O’Dowd. Josh Uranga of Drama 3/4 Productions is also producing.

O’Dowd said he’s in talks with YouTube about distributing “In Bloom” and “South Beach,” slated to go into production in the fall. Dolphin also is approaching marketers about sponsorship and brand-integration deals.

With the 10 original songs, “In Bloom,” written by Brice Beckham and David Fickas, will be like a concept album, such as Pink Floyd’s “The Wall,” O’Dowd said. Tisdale has a massive online fan base, he added —  14.9 million Facebook and 9.6 Twitter followers.

Dolphin’s “South Beach” digital sudser, aimed at young multicultural and general auds, will follow in the footsteps of Prospect Park’s revivals of “All My Children” and “One Life to Live.” Studio will produce 10 hours of show, sliced into five 9-minute segments to run Monday-Friday for 10 weeks.

Series pivots on rivalry between fictitious music labels Lear Entertainment and Paradise Music set in the world-famous party scene of Miami. Half the cast will be Hispanic, according to O’Dowd. Dolphin also will produce 100-plus pieces of ancillary content, including music videos and recording sessions.

Miami-based Dolphin has previously worked with filmmakers including producer Anthony Zuiker (“CSI”) and producer and director McG (“Charlie’s Angels,” “Terminator: Salvation”). Zuiker developed “Cybergeddon,” a cybercrime thriller sponsored by Symantec’s Norton. Pic debuted Sept. 25, 2012, on Yahoo, garnering more than 30 million viewers worldwide. McG exec-produced high-school spy series “Aim High.”

O’Dowd formed Dolphin in 1996 as a TV and film financing outfit. The 7-footer played center for Creighton U’s college basketball team.

The "Scary Movie 5" star sipped her cold beverage in a gray sleeveless top, multicolored scarf, and sparkly gray pants.

Switching gears from her acting, the 27-year-old blonde beauty needed that jolt for a busy day, tweeting on Wednesday, "Recording music :) :) :)."

In an interview with MTV recently, Ashley shared her urge to sing with pal Vanessa Hudgens, explaining, "I think music, for us, is a big part of us, me and Vanessa. We love it. We obviously came from 'High School Musical,' so we miss it."

Ashley Tisdale is ready for the world to end. And, if it has to happen, at least she’s in interesting company. The singer/actress will join Nicolas Cage in the dystopian drama “Left Behind.” And while fans are used to her making them chuckle, this project will show her stretching another kind of acting muscle.

"I’m super-excited to be doing a movie called 'Left Behind' with Nicolas Cage. I play his daughter, and it’s a drama, so it’s completely different from this,” she said, comparing it to her current role in the comedy “Scary Movie 5.”

The film, which also stars Chad Michael Murray, is about a group of people left behind after the rapture, and she’s looking forward to showing people that she can get serious when the cameras start rolling—even in the direst of circumstances. She added, "I’ve always loved drama and I love comedy, but I think it’s good to switch it up to show your range."

No release date has been set for her dramatic turn, though Ashley is currently starring in the comedy “Scary Movie 5” and has confirmed to MTV News that she’s working on new music. And, much like with her work in “Left Behind,” the multi-hyphenate is hoping to surprise people.

"I'm still feeling it out," she said of her new music. "I want to surprise people a little bit, something different from what I've done before. I started actually last year recording, but you know, I'm just still trying to find exactly what I want to do."

Some of the "High School Musical" stars have a song (or an album) in their hearts.

After appearing in "Spring Breakers," Vanessa Hudgens recently surprised fans when she dropped the scandalous track "$$$ex." And her pal Ashley Tisdale is also feeling inspired to make music again.

There's a good reason why the former "HSM" starlets are back in the studio. "I think music, for us, is a big part of us, me and Vanessa," Tisdale told MTV News. "We love it. We obviously came from 'High School Musical,' so we miss it."

n the four years since Tisdale dropped her last studio album, Guilty Pleasure, she's focused more on her film career, including her latest release, "Scary Movie V." But now she's ready to create jams instead of films, and she thinks she's lived just enough life the last few years to put those experiences to music.

"It's so funny. I've been asked that question a lot, and I've just always been somebody who needs to be inspired, obviously, to do something," she said. "I don't just want to do it just to do it. But I have been missing music, so I think I'm going to be going to the recording studio, like, next week."

So what should fans expect from Tisdale on her next album? Well, that's just what she's trying to figure out.

"I'm still feeling it out," she said. "I want to surprise people a little bit, something different from what I've done before. I started actually last year recording, but you know, I'm just still trying to find exactly what I want to do."

Ashley Tisdale has graduated from "High School Musical" and the college cheerleading of "Hellcats," but that doesn’t mean she’s beyond starring in a piece of Hollywood juvenilia. In this case, it’s "Scary Movie V," the fifth in a line of movie satirizing the popular horror movies of recent years that comes to theaters this week. This time around, the film targets titles like "Mama," "Paranormal Activity," "Black Swan" and "Rise of the Planet of the Apes."

There’s plenty of juvenile humor throughout "Scary Movie V." In one "Paranormal Activity" segment, Tisdale ends up humping a microwave and nearby furniture, oblivious that the ghosts are making her do it. It’s a bravura slapstick performance.

"That was part of the reshoots. I had already humped a potted plant in Atlanta and that was nerve-wracking," Tisdale said. "For that, there was only one camera guy and they kept it really quiet so it was okay." She didn’t have that privacy for the reshoots, but rolled with the punches. "When I had to ’be’ with the chair and the microwave, I was just like, ’Oh, I’ve got this. It’s fine that everybody’s watching.’"

Any sense of vanity went out the window with the movie. In fact, when it’s this ridiculous, Tisdale can be as suggestive as she wants. "I do recall having the hardwood chair hitting me from behind and I was all into it. Suddenly, I realized, ’I’m getting slammed by a chair right now.’ And I started laughing hysterically because I never thought I’d be in that position. Then the director says, ’Do it harder.’ And I’m like, ’It’s hard wood. It hurts.’ I wish there had been a camera on the prop guy who was jamming it behind me. It just was so wrong."

By the fifth film in the series, the "Scary Movie" franchise has already gone pretty far trying to top its predecessors. Add to that, other over-the-top comedies keep raising the stakes. But Tisdale puts competition out of her mind and tries to focus on her own performance.

"As a comedian, I just feel like I like to go for things -- go for the joke and do it. I’m not thinking about what I look like or what expression I’m making. You just kind of have to be free as a comedian and not take yourself too seriously. So every single time they’re like, ’Yes, now he’s going to hit you from behind and you’re going to land in the toilet,’ I’m like, ’Okay, cool. Just make sure it’s water.’

Ashley Tisdale may play a mean stepmom in Scary Movie 5, but for now, she’s content being an awesome aunt in real life.

“I love kids—I have a niece Mikayla that’s adorable,” the actress, 27, tells me. “My character in the movie is not a fan of kids, so it was definitely hard to play that.”

Although Ashley, who is dating musician Christopher French, is focused on work and not quite ready to start a family of her own, she enjoys spending time with her older sister Jennifer’s little girl.

“I love being able to have a niece,” she says. “Mikayla’s like a little best friend—she’s awesome. She’s super fun. Just seeing her grow up is insane because she’s grown so much in three years.”

She continues, “Working with the kids on Scary Movie, those two little twin boys, would grow monthly. I was just like ‘oh my gosh, this is insane, how quickly they grow.’”

But that’s where the similarities end.

“When I was shooting this movie, I look at my niece who’s just like a normal kid who isn’t in the business, and then I look at these three-year-olds who are in the movie, and it’s amazing how some kids are super-professional. [laughs] I’m like ‘oh my gosh.’”

Still, Mikayla could catch on quickly.

“My niece is starting to understand what I do, I think, because she’ll see me on TV. She’s starting to get it, and now she’s such a camera hog. I give props to kids who are in the movie.”

Clearly, the High School Musical star adores the special bond she shares with Mikayla.

“It’s so funny—my niece is a lot like me,” she says. “My sister’s always like ‘oh my gosh, I swear I had you as a child.’ It’s crazy! Obviously me being young, I didn’t know how I was, but now I’m like ‘I get it,’ so I have a complete understanding with Mikayla—like, I totally get her in such a different way from everybody else.”

Hm, how does she cope with the inevitable temper tantrums?

“I give her to my sister,” Ashley says with a laugh. “Yes, there have definitely been temper tantrums. I try to distract her whenever there is one, when I’m around. I try to be like ‘oh, look, what’s that over there?’ It’s good when you can distract them on something that they’re not focused on.”

The first Scary Movie came out thirteen years ago. It starred the Wayans brothers, Anna Faris, and the girl from American Pie. This weekend, the fifth sequel makes its star-studded debut: Heather Locklear represents the ‘80s, Simon Rex offers ‘90s nostalgia, and Ashley Tisdale proudly fronts the aughts. In celebration of the parody, we asked Tisdale to spill the beans on her favorite beauty product.

“I think I came across Kerastase's Serum Oleo-Relax ($40) at a salon maybe seven years ago--I’ve been using it for years! My hair’s super dry from being dyed so many shades of blonde, not to mention brunette, and bleached and styled. And I’m not great with oils (putting MoroccanOil on my hair actually made my face break out), but this has the same effect without affecting my skin. I put it on when I get out of the shower and let it air dry. No matter what climate I’m in--dry desert heat, humidity--the serum tames my hair so it’s not nearly as frizzy as it would be otherwise. I actually like that it doesn’t have a smell, and since I have such thick hair I can really pile it on. Someone with straight, thin hair should probably only use a tiny bit.”

Today, Scary Move 5 comes out, which stars Ashley Tisdale. Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan are in the film too but we digress. Anyway, in its honor, we want to talk about the rise and fall of Ashley Tisdale. Well, mostly just the rise.

Clearly High School Musical was Ashley's prime and we will still sometimes refuse to call her anything other than Sharpay, but Ash had some other noteworthy projects that have happened since that dear trilogy came to an end in 2008. Remember when...

Ashley voiced Candace on Phineas and Ferb? She played the bratty older sister role perfectly.

Ashley played Savannah on the short-lived cheerleading drama, Hellcats? That show was cancelled way too soon, if you ask us. Her co-star, Robbie Jones, is really hot and honestly just needed more airtime.

Ashley had a singing career? Good times. "He Said, She Said" is still to this day one of our favorite pop songs from a Disney star, just saying.

Ashley starred as Emma Jean on Sons of Anarchy? Grown-up TV was a good look for Ash.

Ashley revived her HSM character with Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure about her life as an aspiring Broadway actress? Austin Butler was her co-star and that's sorta kinda how Austin met and hooked up with his now girlfriend, Ashley's other co-star, Vanessa Hudgens! Love works in mysterious ways.

And speaking of scary, "Scary Movie 5" star Ashley Tisdale put on a brave face for her own 2013 MTV Movie Awards-themed game of "F***, Marry, Kill" with MTV After Hours' Josh Horowitz, where she chose between horror movie characters and famous vampires (we're talking along the lines of Freddy Krueger and Dracula). Clearly Ashley had given this matter some thought, as she wisely elected to marry Edward Cullen aka Robert Pattinson (GET IN LINE), kill a zombie, and f*** a certain chocolate cereal mascot. (Sounds kinky. At least Nosferatu didn't make the list.)

Ashley Tisdale has definitely shed her Disney roots with a sexy new cover shoot for Maxim, but during her Mickey Mouse tenure, she kept it PG. On the most recent "Nikki & Sara LIVE," The Tizz tells Nikki Glaser and Sara Schaefer that a closed-mouth kissing rule on "The Suite Life" left her explicitly forbidden from full-on making out with Zac Efron, but that didn't stop him from trying to slip her the tongue regardless.

"He went for it!" Ash says in the interview below. "And I came out of that kiss like, 'Woah!' Like, he was trying to get in there." The Zac attack wasn't her only onset curve ball, though, as Molly Shannon's hilarious shenanigans left Ashley giggling all through filming "Scary Movie 5." To help her focus, the movie's director suggested she channel "Unsolved Mysteries"' Robert Stack, and the fact that she (like us) had no idea who he actually was became her golden ticket to playing the scene. When it was over, the director praised her acting and asked how she kept it together. Her answer? "I was thinking, like, who the f**k is Robert Stack?"
