Miss Sharpay is on a roll! Ashley Tisdale just won the MTV Movie Award for Breakthrough Female Performance
in the last High School Musical (Senior Year) film beating her co-star
Vanessa Hudgens. Having wrapped her long stint as the blonde diva we
love to hate, the actress/singer/dancer has re-invented herself as a hot brunette (her natural color).
The news Ashley would really like you to know is that her "edgy" pop/rock (emphasis on rock) album called "Guilty Pleasure" is coming out On July 28th.
We chatted about the new CD, some specific songs on the album, Ashley's
feelings about her HSM years, dating advice, who she would love to
collaborate with musically and her new film Aliens in the Attic. And,
hey, the star admits "I've definitely been cheated on" so what must a
potential boyfriend never do if he doesn't want to tick her off? The
song "Hair" on your new album is really cute.. more of a hip hop vibe
on that one and it's more light-hearted. Where does that one come from? It's
lighthearted but there's a sense of edginess because it's an innuendo
but it's something that I thought was a great, catchy song. Oak
produced it and he also produced "Hot Mess" and, when I heard the
track, I was l like 'man, this song is so good and different and
nobody's done anything like this'. I'm all about my hair for sure. It's
all about the hair so I fell in love with it. A lot of people were
second guessing it but I was like 'no, this song has to go on the
album'. Maybe even that will be a single some day. Everybody's really
enjoyed that song.
"It's Alright, It's OK" with lyrics like
"I'm so much better without you" will strike a personal chord with a
lot of your teen fans suffering from break-ups and "How Do You Love
Someone" asks how can we move on without getting hurt and destroyed?
What advice would you give to teen girls who are staying in abusive
relationships because they just feel they can't move on? The
song "How Do You Love Someone" talks about a mom and dad and coming
from a broken family. My family is great so I don't relate to that song
in that way but I do relate to it, when you have been cheated on or
you're in a relationship where you just don't know how to get past
that. You bring the baggage along. "It's Alright, It's OK" is just a
really strong, empowering song that kind of helps you move on. I have
definitely been cheated on and with someone you really like, if they
are cheating on you, you don't want to believe it. But, unfortunately,
you either stay in the relationship and keep getting hurt because it
keeps happening or you get up and you move on. You don't look back.
That's something that's very empowering and I think that you should
[move on] because you'll be much happier.
We hear that you really like the tune "Masquerade" from the record. That one seems more rock-ish. Might it be a music video? I'm hoping that's going to be the second single
for sure. I do love that song and hopefully, a lot of people will like
it. We're not over-thinking [on the music videos]. It's just what the
next single will be but I always have visions for the music video and
I'm always coming up with treatments and I work really well with my
director and I brainstorm on that stuff. I do have a great idea for
"Masquerade" and I'm so hoping that's the next single.
Tomorrow I am leaving to go out of town for 4 days. I will be unable to
update since I will not be around a computer. So there will be no
updates until Monday morning. I apologize for the inconvenience.

As your album release nears, are you getting excited?
I’m definitely excited. I worked really hard on this album. I
worked for about a year on it. It’s something I’m really proud of and
I’m really excited for everyone to hear it. So, it’s an exciting
and nerve-wracking time.
How was the transition from Headstrong to Guilty Pleasure?
It’s definitely a reflection of where I am in my life right now because I definitely have grown up since Headstrong, but [Guilty Pleasure]
is definitely more guitar-driven pop/rock. The first album I was just
learning about myself and who I was as an artist whereas the second
album I knew exactly what I wanted going into it. I recorded
over twenty-five songs until I got exactly the album I felt was right.
So, yeah, I think it was just something that you can tell I have grown
up between the two.
Very cool. I listened to the album a couple of times and I love “Acting Out” and “Masquerade”!
